Working in Ireland

Different rules apply to different nationalities:

European Union Nationals

EU Nationals do not require a work permit to live and work in Ireland.

Non European Union and European Economic Area Nationals

Visas are only granted to candidates with specific skills and expertise in areas of the existing labour market that are experiencing shortages.
Visas are arranged prior to arrival in Ireland by the employer. Visas can be obtained from:

Australian Working Holiday Permit

Australian nationals can apply for this permit in Australia, London and Dublin by contacting the working holiday permit section of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

New Zealanders & South Africans

Before leaving their respective countries, candidates are required to apply for visas/permits from:
Irish Trade Commission in Auckland, New Zealand or Irish Embassy in Pretoria , South Africa.

What to do when you have secured your working visa and have arrived in Ireland

Obtain a PPS number

This is your tax and social welfare number. You will need to visit your local Social Services Office, along with proof of your address (utility bills etc.), identification (passport) and your work permit.

Obtain a Tax Certificate

Once you have your PPS number you must to contact the Revenue Commissioners to apply for a Tax Certificate. This certificate will be presented to your new employer to ensure that you are taxed at the correct rates. You will need your PPS number and positive identification. Open a bank account

You will need a valid bank account in order to be paid by your employer.
